REGINALD RICE, MD, FACS
Dr. Rice received his medical degree from Loma Linda University in Southern California, where he also completed an internship in general surgery and specialty surgical training in Otolaryngology—head and neck surgery. Dr. Rice went on to complete advanced training in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Institute of Facial Plastic Surgery. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

WHAT IS BOTOX?
BOTOX is the most popular product in the world of aesthetics. Even if you're new to our industry, you've likely heard of it and wondered if it will work for you. Most commonly, it is used to smooth frown lines, crow's feet, and forehead lines. We also use BOTOX on the lower face and neck to reduce the appearance of neck bands, jaw muscles, and lip lines.
BOTOX is an injectable prescription medication that works by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscle. It temporarily relaxes the muscle in the treatment area, resulting in noticeable smoothing and reduced fine lines and wrinkles. It is different from dermal filler, which replenishes volume, but the two can be used in conjunction.
WHAT AREAS CAN YOU TREAT WITH BOTOX?
BOTOX is most commonly used in the upper face to treat frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet. But we also use it to smooth lip lines, necklines, and gummy smiles in the lower face. As one of the safest, most effective, and most studied injectables on the market, BOTOX is considered the gold standard for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and also for preventing them from forming in the first place. BOTOX is also used in many other ways, including treating temporomandibular jaw dysfunction (TMJ), migraines, and excessive sweating.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT A BOTOX APPOINTMENT
Like many other injectable cosmetic treatments, BOTOX is a quick, non-surgical procedure that does not require anesthesia. You will meet with a certified cosmetic nurse injector or doctor at your first appointment to discuss your goals and concerns. Together you will come up with an individualized treatment plan that is as unique as you. Then, the treatment site will be cleaned, and the nurse or doctor will inject the BOTOX. Typically, the BOTOX appointment takes only 15 minutes and is not considered painful.
HOW MANY UNITS DO I NEED?
The number of units used for treatment varies based on the specific areas you wish to address.
AVERAGE UNITS BY AREA:
TMJ: 30-40 units.
Brow lift: 2-4 units.
Crows feet: 5-15 units.
Frown lines: 10-25 units.
Gummy smile: 4-8 units.
Forehead lines: 10-30 units.
Excessive Sweating: 40-50 units.
